“Tony has taken this boy and made him into a young man. Tony slowed him down, and I believe he’s really going to be successful. You can’t teach what Tony is able to do.”
B.W., college counselor
Tony Schmitz, BA
Tony has extensive experience in supporting children, adolescents, and young adults who have a wide range of challenges to learning, including specific learning disorders in language and mathematics, ADHD, and emotional disorders. He has training and certification in ADHD management and in the use of neurolinguistic programming as elements of educational therapy treatment plans.
Tony earned a bachelor’s degree from Creighton University, with a double major in biology and journalism. He played professional soccer after college, which ultimately brought him to Los Angeles, where he served as the Technical Director for SportsWise, a youth soccer camp, for four years. Tony’s approach to working with his clients calls on the athletic mindsets of grit, persistence, and skill-building as means to achievement.
For the past ten years, Tony has been working full-time in the field of educational therapy, helping students build confidence and develop strategies tailored to their individual learning needs. His commitment to ongoing professional growth has led him to pursue further expertise in the field; he is currently enrolled in the educational therapy certificate program at the University of California, Riverside.
In addition to his work in education, Tony is also an accomplished jazz pianist who performs regularly at local venues. Music has been a lifelong passion for him, and he enjoys exploring the connections between rhythm, pattern recognition, and learning. His experience as a musician further enriches his work with students, offering creative and engaging ways to approach cognitive development and problem-solving.
